As a society, we’re all generally needing to print less. Cinema or theatre tickets are downloadable. Check-in at the airport is online. Most news is read digitally rather than from a printed newspaper.
So too here at Touch Design, as part of our environmental credentials, we are seeking to promote a digital first approach wherever possible over the need for print, while recognising there will always be times when print will still be required, often to help with accessibility issues.
Our new Digital First Policy is now available online, setting out our position on working with clients and supporting our over-arching environmental and sustainability policy.
Did you know, for example, that in 2025-26 we decreased our corporate gross carbon emissions by 0.81 tCO2e compared to the previous 12 months? This figure means a saving of 810 kilograms of carbon dioxide. This is roughly equivalent to driving a standard petrol-powered car for about 2,100 miles or flying economy class on a one-way trip from London to New York.
Our digital first approach now means that we will generally encourage consideration of digital alternatives before recommending print. We will design campaigns and communications that prioritise accessibility across digital platforms.
But digital first does not mean digital only. We understand that print can still play a valuable role in reaching audiences with limited digital access and supporting engagement in physical spaces.
Sometimes, for example, audiences have reported to clients that they will only read their newsletter if it’s printed, that the email version just gets deleted in a quick click. In such cases, we promise to help clients assess the environmental, financial and practical impact of printed materials.
There’s a lot more detail in our policy available on the Touch website. If your organisation is interested in adopting a similar stance, we’re always happy to have a chat about our experience and offer you any insights.
